Toccoa River Fishing Report: September 17, 2024
Toccoa River Tailwater Report
Currently the water coming out of the dam is pretty stained and turnover is just around the corner. Once you get further down the river the water at Curtis Switch and Horseshoe Bend Park is pretty clear and the fishing has still been pretty good. The water temps have been creeping into the high 60’s in the afternoons so I would still recommend getting out early and giving the fish a break the rest of the day.
Once November get’s here we will focus more on the Upper Toccoa which offers beautiful views and awesome fishing! The delayed harvest section of the Upper Toccoa starts November 1st.
Until the temps drop significantly and we get some much needed rain I would recommend keeping a thermometer with you and check the water temps before you fish, again early mornings are still the best option.
Small Creeks
With the cooler nightly temps as we approach fall, the smaller creeks water temps have dropped and will give you a better chance at trout fishing in North Georgia. We are still in need of rain so the creeks are very low and a stealthy approach and presentation is key.
Fly Selection
Dry dropper setups are still working great and we’ve been having luck with size 10-14 black and purple, black and green and orange chubby chernobly’s. For the dropper, we’ve started to get consistent eats on size 10-14 black, brown, mocha and olive rubber legs. Size 14-16 Pheasant Tails, Yellow Copper John’s, Hare’s Ear, Lightning Bugs, and Rainbow Warriors have all been working well. October Caddis are just around the corner so make sure you have some in your fly box in the coming month!
As always, remember to check the Dam Generation Schedule before heading out to the river, and if you are interested in a guided trip we would love to give you the best experience!
Tight lines and happy fishing!
