Toccoa River Fishing Report: January 15, 2025
Toccoa River Tailwater Report
The Toccoa River tailwater in North Georgia is fishing well this season, making it a top destination for Georgia anglers this winter. From now through early March, anglers have the perfect opportunity to target trophy brown trout by throwing streamers. For those looking to elevate their fly fishing experience, floating the Toccoa River on high water and fishing streamers is an exciting and rewarding way to go after a big brown. February marks the arrival of the highly anticipated black caddis hatch, one of the best times of the year for dry fly fishing. This hatch offers a unique chance to catch a big trout on the surface, making the Toccoa River a must-visit for winter fly fishing in Georgia. As always, remember to check the Dam Generation Schedule before heading out to the tailwater.
Small Creeks
The smaller creeks are fishing consistently well this season. Targeting the deeper pools has been particularly productive for landing trout. This time of year is also ideal for swinging streamers through these pools, offering a great opportunity to hook into bigger fish in these smaller waters.
Upper Toccoa River
The Upper Toccoa River has also been fishing well this season. The upper stretches of our floats provide a solid chance to hook into a larger fish, while the Delayed Harvest section continues to offer excellent fishing opportunities. Always check the water gauge before heading out to the Upper Toccoa, we do not recommend wade fishing the Upper if the water is above 600 cfs.
Lake Trips
Looking to switch things up this winter? Targeting stripers on the lake with a fly rod is an exciting way to take your fly fishing skills to the next level. Choose a cold, overcast day with light winds, and you're bound to have a great day! Give us a call or shoot us an email to get out on the lake this winter!
Flies
We have been having good success with, Size 8-10 Brown, Mocha, Olive and Black Rubber Legs, Size 14-16 March Browns, Pheasant Tails, Frenchies, and Rainbow Warriors. As far as streamers go we love CJ Sluggos, Sex Dugeons, Sparkle minnows and of course woolyboogers. Remember most fish tend to school up in slower deeper pools in the winter so make sure you’re fishing deep enough and don’t be afraid to add an extra split shot.
If you are interested in a guided trip we would love to give you a great day on the Toccoa River.
Tight lines and happy fishing!
